3 October 2017

You are warmly invited to the 5 to 7 of the official launch of TRYSPACES on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société de l’INRS.

TRYSPACES (Transformative Youth Spaces) is a collaborative research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). From 2017 to 2023, a team of researchers, interdisciplinary students, multimedia artists, social workers, city professionals and teenagers and young adults from Mexico City, Montreal, Paris and Hanoi will explore the relationship between young people’s presence in public spaces and the way they experience this visibility.

How do young people use public, physical and virtual spaces, and why are these uses often considered transgressive? Why would transgression be attractive, even sometimes necessary, for some young people? What are the consequences of these transgressive practices on the regulation of public spaces (physical and digital) and urban governance? What relationships (formal and informal) exist between these young people who engage in transgressive practices and governance institutions? How do the regimes regulating public spaces compare in Mexico City, Paris, Montreal and Hanoi, cities with contrasting cultures and political systems?
