Founded in 1966, National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) functions as a place for studying, teaching, conducting research, transferring technological science and creating numerous important contributions to production reality. It has been a vibrant hub for students, professors and scholars in the field of engineering in Vietnam and several  neighbouring countries. The missions of the National University of Civil Engineering are to contribute to the national industrialization, modernization and international integration through the pursuit of education for high-qualified human resources, scientific research and advanced technology transfer in the field of construction.

Most relevant to the TRYSPACES research partnership, from 2013 to 2015, over 10 faculty and students from the NUCE have been involved in the “Youth-Friendly Public Space in a Context of Rapid Urbanization” – Hanoi Youth Public Space – research project, one of the research projects that laid the groundworks for the development of the TRYSPACES partnership.

TRYSPACES will contribute to the co-production of useful knowledge from an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral perspective and the facilitation of a multidirectional flow of knowledge across academic and non-academic partners and the broader public, nationally and internationally.

The NUCE’s role in this project is primarily focused on the design and implementation of research activities in Hanoi.

We collaborate on the development of detailed research protocol and instruments, participate actively in the data collection and analysis process, and collaborate on the dissemination of results through the production of research papers and activities aimed at a general and youth audience (such as the organization of participatory design workshops, exhibitions, etc.) We will also continue to organize pairings of NUCE students with foreign students coming to do fieldwork in Hanoi, a model that we have developed with great success with prof. Danielle Labbé from the Université de Montréal over the last five years.
